1.概要(Summary )
Serotonin (5-HT) is known to play important role in the neural development, but specific role of 5-HT receptor is still poorly understood. Hence, we extensively investigated the role of 5-HT receptor in the development of hippocampal neurons in mice.
2.実験(Experimental)
We observed the effect of 5-HT4 receptor agonist on the neurite formation in hippocampal culture using immunohistochemistry and Scanning electron miroscope (SEM).
3.結果と考察(Results and Discussion)
We found that treatment with 5-HT4 receptor agonist promoted the neurite formation and branching in the embryonic mouse hippocampal neurons (Figs.1,2). These results could be useful for the treatment of neural developmental disorder like autism spectrum disorder and schizophrenia where 5-HT related-abnormal growth of neurons are observed.
